Default Theme: Young Oystercatcher Showing Off

I took this image at Nickerson in Jun-2011. This is the only time this young chick raised it's wings and I was lucky to be behind the camera to take this shot.

I had hard time with PP to separate the chick from BG. Added some Selective Sharpening and adjusted contrast and exposure. I really need help with PP.

    C&C Welcome.

What a pose, looks like a jack rabbit!
    Nice exposure.

    Good job.

Haha, such a cool image Sachin. From the thumbnail I too thought this was a rabbit.
Just love the raised foot and wings which make this image dynamic. Lovely low angle and exposure too.
I wouldn't worry about separating the chick from the BG. I love it as presented.
I'd probably give it more room around (unless this is a full frame).
[And this is just a personal pref thing, but I'd either lose the frame or make it thinner although I like how it picks up color from the chick]
    Nice work! TFS.

looks very nice perhaps you could increase the brightness a bit. It shows how tiny the wings are! sharp details.

Remember you can post up to 800 pixels tall for better viewing.

I Love how they play when they first learn about those wings. I really like the wing position as wellas the low angle. I find myself distracted by the dark area in the bg that touches the birds back end and would probably try to remove it If this were mine..

Thanks Siddhart! I would go back to original and see If I can leave some space or play with border to make it look wider..

Thanks Arash! I will try and play with Brightness and see if it improves. I know I can but I had tough time re sizing it so just took it from Flickr and put it in.

Thanks Carole..Nope he wasn't charging me but this antic was momentary and none of the OC chicks have done it again..I went there for every weekend after this but no such luck...May be it was beginners luck as it was my first day at this place.

Thanks Cheryl!! I would try and see if I can get rid of it but as I mentioned in post I am very poor in PP and learning things.

Thanks everyone for looking and the guidance..

I too love the charging jack-rabbit pose and the raised wings. And yes to pulling the curve up a bit. Unless I am mistaken I am seeing some clone stamp tool marks along the lower frame edge.

Did you do anything with.near the dark stuff on the left side of the bird???

Sachin, good DOF, and well done on getting this head on. I do like the running pose, raised foot and wings, and another vote on viewing this larger.

Regarding separating subjects from BG's, you can always select the subject and play around with the BG, either darkening it, or playing with contrast etc. that way, it normally makes the subject pop.
