    Default Nice Background/No Sticks!

    Attached Images Attached Images

Just got back from my killer Galapagos trip. For the first time ever I had a clean chance at a Magnificent Frigatebird with an inflated pouch. Whoohoo!

    North Seymour Island.

This image was created with the tripod-mounted Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens and the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 800. Evaluative metering +2/3 stop: 1/80 sec. at f/5.6 in Manual mode.

    Lens/camera body Micro-adjustment: +3.

    Artie, welcome back!

Noelle and I were just in the Keys and seen so many of these birds from a distance, none with the red pouch, I hear there can be many various colors of these birds.

Spot on exposure and for 1/80 @ 800mm you did good, looks tack sharp, my only nit would be the OOF foreground feathers, I wonder if a slightly tighter crop excluding these would improve this already astounding image.

While I too would love those feathers sharp I did not want to work at ISO 25000. And the image needs them as a frame so no cropping for me :). Thanks for stopping by.

Artie, this is truly outstanding. I know these birds very well, since I live in Mexico. It is indeed very hard to get a shot of them with a clear BG. Love the composition with the beak up, the beautiful pouch, the eye contact and the colors.....outstanding.

The oof feathers are a good frame edge leading to the red throated area. i think thats what I wanted to say. Any how it looks great. Fine details in the head and clean clear sharp eye.

Very nice image. Sharp with excellent detail. Killer BG too. I feel that a bit more room on the right could balance the composition nicely.

Nicely done. Given the restricted access rules on Galapagos (for good reasons, of course) I know how difficult it is to get just the right angle, light, and clean view of these guys. Love the feather detail on the pouch.

A real stunner Artie. Nice to bring a fresh perspective to your subject. I never knew they had feathers on the pouch itself.

Art , that is truely amazing and the best and closest image of a frigatebird I've seen .WOW So when I saw your name I wasn't surprised. The light and detail on face and pouch are amazing and seeing those little tiny feathers on the pouch was an eye opener as I never knew they existed. I do wish you had more dof on the whole bird but that's only if you are asking me to pick on something. Awesome image as is!

Dumay, The only halo I see is along the top of the bill and the pouch. Both are present in the RAW file :)

I love it. The details on the pouch and head and the excellent pose make this one a winner IMO.
