    Default Suspicious River Otter (portrait)

River Otter at Suisun Marsh (Grizzly Island National Wildlife Refuge) in Northern California. Shot handheld with a 600 mm f/4 and Nikon D7000, ISO 800 1/2000, crop.
I believe he is thinking, "the shore monkey is making scary clicking noises."

    Hi Randy.

Having spent a wonderful morning recently with otters I enjoy seeing this shot.

Nice look you got here, I struggled to get them to look my way while in the water. The light could have been kinder, and obviously a lower angle would have been nice but not always possible in reserves and when not in a boat with a water-based mammal like this.

I would be interested to know how your D7000 performs with the prime? I have read reviews that said it doesn't AF very well with large primes? :2

    Randy,

Welcome to BPN and the wildlife forum.

Good use of the vertical format. Inquisitive look serves this subject and the image well. I felt the image looked a bit soft and downloaded it.

Besides a bit of sharpening, I opened up the shadows with Shadow/Highlight adjustment and removed red, yellow and green saturation using a Hue/Saturation adjustment.
