Default Purple Martin III - ...and My First Cicada!!

...unfortunately said cicada is trapped in a Purple Martin's bill. Seriously though, it is truly the first time I've actually seen, rather than heard, a cicada...and it seemed to be one of the PMs' favorite food items that evening.

The original had the subject tucked too close into the URC, so I added canvas top and right, and cropped left and bottom. The sunlit foot was nearly blown, so I toned it down via the burn tool.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @340mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, equivalent of about 85% FF.

Killer shot Daniel...I tried to capture similar shot of this bird as it was approaching nest as that is the only time I can imagine capturing these birds as they slow down a little...

    You did great job here...

Great capture here, Daniel! The cicada puts this one over the top for me. I also like the b/g.

Love the flight posture here, sharp, and his catch is a bonus. The hint of clouds in the sky adds a lot to the BG. Well captured.

You positively nailed this one Daniel.
Excellent pose, details and light. You froze this speedster pretty well at 1/1600th.
