    Default Galapagos Tortoise

Another image I have revisited. Taken on my trip to the Galapagos in April 2009 in the Santa Cruz highlands. This one was enjoying some local fruits.

HH, s/h and levels adjustments, bg darkened (-5) and selectively sharpened in CS5.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, and i thought I was a sloppy eater.

These guys are great, I can keep up with their pace and so approachable too.

Like the close up & comp, but I think if you have added any saturation it might have pushed things a little, ie the blue around the eye and the BG? I would be tempted to pulled back the blues (might help in some of the greens too?), add a hint more more in Curves and certainly another round of sharpening on the head, just picks up more detail I feel. Removing the three grass stems make help it, but I have to say, it does make it slightly boring. You will know what I mean.

Will try and elaborate more later if needed, must fly now.

    Hi Rachel,
Very nice portrait but head is a bit soft. I would have opted for a higher aperture to increase DOF. I love the food on his chin. I agree about removing the 3 bits of grass at the bottom of the frame. I have never seen one of these in real life so cannot comment on saturation of colors. Is there really blue around the eyes?

Always liked these guys (despite their messy eating habits!). Nice close up and the fruit adds a nice contrasting touch of color. Could go either way on the 3 stems, you still have the nice branchlet on the right hand side. Agree it could do with a little more sharpening.

Thanks Steve, Steve and Gail - saturation is as it was, no boost in conversion or pp. Here's a repost with the suggested changes.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Nice detail and the colors look Ok to me..maybe that blue occurs naturally as an undertone. Nice one Rachel
