Nice Evening Light + West Wind = A Visit to the Purple Martin Colony!
A couple of beautiful evenings, plus winds from the west (light and wind at my back) means an easier time to photograph the incoming Purple Martins to the "condos". The young are nearly fledged and quite voracious in their appetite so the hub of activity is almost non-stop. It was my first time really putting the 7D to the "BIF" test...now I really saw how much of an upgrade to the 40D this camera is! Lots of good poses had, so I may post a few moe in the coming days.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @360mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/7.1, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handheld, about 75% FF, part of "condo" cloned out.
wow Daniel, really love the freeze action of this fast guy and the evening colors are beautiful. The eye contact is spot on and he's probably wondering what you are lookin at! I really admire your work and thoroughness of your approach.
I have the same set up as you, 7D and the 100-400 lens. I always learn from you and wanted to be sure you knew how appreciative I am, thanks. Looking forward to more purple martin shots, keep em coming. Ann
Excellent work Daniel, the flight pose is a little awkward and not exactly ideal but the fantastic eye contact you've captured has meant that the pose is not an issue in the slightest. Well done
