Photo taken in Norway. Generally I find that dark shadow on the pictures are not good. But this picture is it ok?? Data: EOS 1 D MK III, 500mmL F4, 0 IS, ISO 100, F 4.0, 1 / 640. Date 7/8-2008

Geir, I am fine with the shadow and the angled light. I personally like that effect....mainly because the bird is angled such that the light is hitting it nicely and helps in getting the details out. Excellent exposure, low angle and composition.

    Loved the water drops.

It'd have been better with a smaller aperture/ more DOF. You had plenty of headroom on the ISO front.

Shadows can add depth and dimension and here I don't see a problem. Blocking of shadows does not seem to be such a problem as bleaching the whites. This is a superb image and the water drops raise the image a level above the usual portrait image. If I were to negatively criticise I would be 'nit picking' and I don't like to 'nit pick'.

    A superb image!

Low angle works great and like the eye contact. I agree with DOF, a little more would helped get the whole bird sharp.

Love the low angle and the head angle. The water droplets in the air add a lovely touch to the image. I am Ok with the blacks and agree re more DOF

Great low angle and I love the flying water droplets (and especially the water streak behind the neck). I wouldn't mind a bit of blocked shadow, but for me the area of detail-less black is just too large and an eye grabber. I would have loved at least a little bit of detail in there, perhaps there is a bit more to extract from the raw file. I do like the quality of the light...nice and warm.

    Overall very nice Geir!

Excellent low angle and great details plus sweet light. I don't mind shadows but in this case it is blocked and a bit distracting, maybe you can recover some details in the RAW since you were at ISO100.
