    Default Osprey intimidation

After hanging around the nest for a few weeks, they are getting a bit edgy.

The BG is the distant forest across the river.
    The white specks are raindrops.
The perch is an old piling in the river.

Noise reduction, a crop and sharpening applied.

great dynamic pose Dan, the intense eye contact and wing position are great. The image appears noisy, perhaps due to too much sharpening. perch is not ideal and there is a slight magenta color cast. except for the perch, noise and color cast should be easy to fix.

    Well done!

I really like the pose you captured and the birds position in the frame but i agree it seems over sharpened.

Nice pose and looks like you did a great job locking focus on the face.
Love the wingspread and the details, although you could probably reduce the sharpening a bit as mentioned.
The bg color is very different but nice.
I agree there's a magenta cast to this image.
NR, fixing the color cast, easing up on the sharpening and perhaps just a slightly looser crop might work wonders for this image.
    Well done.

Per Arash advice, I calibrated my monitor and re-looked at the photo.
I did not adjust the color on the original at all, just a touch of saturation,
I did though, adjust the color on the repost per your comments and it does look better.
I better stick to ETL for awhile.
    Thanks.
Adjusted color and sharpness in repost.

Dan, this is a big improvement. I forgot to mention that the rain drops are awesome.
I would encourage you to stay on this forum - it's the quickest way to learn imo and you have already improved leaps and bounds.
I too am a relative newbie to photography but am determined to get better, and I will, thanks to the knowledge generously shared by the great members here.

this is what looks neutral on my screen, I used the eye dropper tool in PS to measure the whites, then used RGB curves to bring the whites to a neutral balance

Arash, I realized a few minutes ago, what I did.
I use neutral settings in camera and use auto white balance, which works for me.
On this photo, I went back and realized I used "calculate automatically" for some reason, (trying something different) and it messed it up.
Thank you very much, it looks much better, despite the perch, I take hundreds of Osprey photos a week as I have a nest minutes from my house and I really did like this shot.
I am still hoping for the first fledge pictures of the chicks.

Good pose, and I like the rainy weather feel. Applying the tweaks suggested will really improve the image. For me colour-wise the image in pane 5 looks best.

Dan, ETL is there for you if you feel more comfortable there...but don't be shy hanging out here as you are very much welcome in Avian!
