This is a yoga pose for greeting the new day, a la Mountain Goat style. Thank you so much Tin Man Lee for your inspirational Mountain Goat posting. I discovered Mt. Evans is less than 3 hours away. And I had a fabulous time!! Besides the many wonderful goats, there were Big Horn sheep, Yellow-bellied Marmots, picas, and incredible alpine scenery !

    Canon 1D-Mark IV, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS @200, hand held with freezing fingers, 1/4000, f4.5, exp. copm. +1/3, ISO 400

    All c & c most welcome.

P.S. Marina, I don't know where you are staying but the summit of Mt. Evans is a 1 hour drive from Idaho Springs. We left our hotel at 5 am for sunrise at the top. Also, we found the goats that morning by walking up the gravel road from where you park at the summit, and behind the observatory. They were gathered around a small salt lick in the rocks. You can easily position yourself with the rising sun to your back and photograph until you become too cold and hungry .

Nancy - great pose and I like that the goat seems to be standing on the edge of the world. I'd prefer a little more room below if you have it, it might make that stance even more dramatic. Nice golden light too.

I too would like more room at the bottom. I don't have it but maybe I can add some so it looks natural.

Here is a repost. I found another image in that series that had more rock I could use.

I prefer re-post. Do you have one with it looking towards camera? I like this but it seems so, "static"?
Also, I'm not at all critical about super sharpness, but image seems a bit too soft? And as compared to the other two recent goat/sheep posts. Although might be as good as it gets for goat fur at that distance?

Lovely light, pose and details here Nancy!
I hear what Tom is saying but for my tastes I would only add a hint of extra sharpening on the head as presented.

    Looking forward to more!

I like the repost and agree with some sharpening on the head. I quite like the stance as it shows exactly what your title implied, greeting the sun. Lovely warm light.

Hi Nancy, I prefer the repost due to the fact you have more at the base of the image ie more rock. I also like the 'aloof' stance too, however I feel it's a little saturated IMHO, but not knowing the time of day this could be a true reflection. There is good SS so I would also have upped your DOF. Sadly perhaps due to the coldness of the location 'freezing fingers' there might have been a little camera shake, reducing the clarity & sharpness of the image?

I have found using neoprene shooting gloves occasional good to wear, as they are lightweight, not bulky and have cut outs for both thumb & index finger with good grip.

Steve, I think you are right about my freezing fingers. After less than an hour I had to quit and go back to the car. There the pain of thawing fingers was significant . That morning wind was a killer. But I believe the color is correct. It was early morning sunrise.

Thanks Nancy, need to look after those paws.

How about those heat packs you just break and they give off heat for several hours. Cheap, lightweight and worth having in case of emergencies.
