I've been working on making more environmental portraits as of late and this is one of my current favorites. It took a number of captures and much maneuvering on my part to frame the bird how I wanted. I'd love your opinions.

Captured at Ft. DeSoto, Tierra Verde, FL.

    500 f/4L + 1.4x
    1/800 f/10 set manually
    ISO 400
580 EXII flash w/ Better Beamer at -3

Processed in LR3 with minor touch-up in PS

    Cheers!

Very nice environmental shot. I like the composition very much. My only nit is the bit of OOF grass under bird's beak. If this was mine I would clone it out (down to the chest). The windswept grasses look lovely. I really like the ocean blue at the top of the frame. Very nice shot.I like it!

These are tough images to pull through. For the most part it looks good. I love the brown/yellow/aqua layers of colours, and good subject placement within the frame. I wish the thin wisps of grasses above the plover's head weren't there, and same for the whitish area at center of the image (I know it is beach sand, but still...) The plover contrasts nicely from the soft vegetation. I'd enhance its' currently visible catchlight to make the eye more "alive".

    I like it.

The wind blown grass adds a lot to the image. colours are excellent and i particularly like the combination in top right corner.

These grassy photos always seem to have bits and pieces out of place and it is hard sometimes to know where to begin and end when making adjustments. I like Daniel's idea about the eye and Gail's about the bit of grass.

    Thanks for posting.

Nice environment shot david I like some of the reads are soft yet you can still see the birds faceonbody. I also like how you placed the bird way to the left of the frame looking into the field
