Hi - shots nothing special - except I amazed myself - this guy was on the rear vision mirror of the car next to me as I came back from a walk, so I thought wonder if i can hand hold the sigmamonster (300-800).

shot from 23 feet away - handheld - 200 ISO at 800mm - f6.3 - 1/400th. Pretty hard to try and get much in the way of composition when you are hand holding this beast. I am amazed it is as sharp as it is.

Oodles of detail and great exposure control Lance, although I would prefer an entire tail.

YES a full tail would have been good, but this lens weighs a ton - only took the one shot as I really did not expect it to come out very sharp at all. I really only took this shot to prove I couldn't use this lens without a tripod.

I'd definitely give Al's suggestion a try. Beautiful bird....and great detail. I give you credit for handholding the sigmamonster.....and getting a wonderful image.
