The terns are busy this month diving for food to take back to their nests. This morning was chilly, overcast and blustery (a very difficult day for bird photography); but I practiced some in-flight shots anyway. This Forster's Tern had just come up from a successful dive and was heading for "home." What do you think?

Great action. I like the small water droplets too. Nice capture.

Wendell, I think you made a nice capture in difficult conditions. I would suggest lightening the eye just a bit and maybe adding a bit of catch-light to it. Bolsa Chica is a great place to wile away the hours shooting terns...

I agree, Wendell, nice action capture in difficult conditions. Like the water drops, and the fish in mouth adds a lot of interest. Kerry makes some good suggestions, nice work!

'preciate the comments Nancy and Brendan.

And Kerry you nailed the place -- Bolsa Chica. I was there for over an hour, and all by myself, not another camera in sight (only schoolkids on tours). I guess all photographers but me were smart enough to sleep in and choose another morning. The tern activity was great, the shooting conditions were awful . . .

Wendell, I love the image and I think the blurred wings really work on this one since they're so unobtrusive. FYI, the bird is an Elegant Tern, not a Forster's Tern. The extremely long, thin, decurved pale orange bill with no black tip and the extent of the black going down the nape are right for Elegant and all wrong for Forster's.

Paul, thanks for the ID correction and for the favorable critique . . . both appreciated.
