    Default Nyala Bull

...an antelope that hasn't been shown a lot here on the Wildlife Forum. They tend to keep in very dense riverine and indigenous forests in Southern Africa. This bull was the leader of a herd we came across on the aptly titled "Nyala Loop" in the far north of the Kruger Park, December 2009.

The nyala is in the Tragelaphus family with the the kudu, puku, bongo and sitatunga.

    Techs:
    Nikon D300s with 200-400mm f4 VR @ 340mm
    f5.6 @ 1/640 SS @ ISO-400
    Saved 50 quality.

Great looking Antelope, Morkel, and nice behavior capture, chomping on the grass. Nice detail and IQ.

Great IQ and the feeding pose works well. Vegetation really true to summer habitat. Very nice bud

Morkel - nice feeding behavior, well captured. Like the dense vegetation too.

Hi Morkel, a great beast and what a privilege to see here and to have witness I'm sure. I really like the sculptured form of this animal, the markings and detail. Personally I do think there is a slight blue cast running through it which is losing some of the detail IMHO. A slight tweak overall and it still retains the lushness of the vegetation and the nice marks.

    Appreciate posting this one Morkel.

Thanks for your kind feedback folks.

Steve - blue and cyan desaturated. Subtle difference, thanks for that!

Hi Morkel, certainly it is better, but there still seems to be more detail in there? I am not saying this is right, but perhaps you can see what I mean about the depth of detail and this is from the web posting. Might be worth a quick look back, as this is a really nice image with lots of potential.

Or am I getting to close to this?:2

Beautiful creature and great moment you captured! I think the reposts helped. At the first glance, I thought the animal was calling, then I realized there were grass in the mouth. I wonder if there are any ways to separate these grass from the background better because its a really cool part of the photo. Fantastic shot!

Nice looking antelope and a good clean view in what looks to be tough conditions to get one. I like the cool, lush feel of this one.

Thanks everyone. Steve - nice repost, might be a tad too warm but if so just a smidgeon.

Yep, I agree Morkel, just felt it just needed that little push, if you know what I mean.

Still think there is a lot more in there to retrieve. I hate Nikon .
