I was looking for portrait opportunities, which was much harder than BIF given the closely packed birds which made hard to separete one. The background was the up slope ground.
    Thanks for looking.

Superb background. Great job in getting rid of distracting background with many birds! Details are stunning.

    Thanks, Tin.
My wording must have been misleading. I did not have to clone out anything (no birds or part of a bird) from this shot.
What I meant was that I managed to find a few birds being separated from the huge crowd and managed to take head shots of those.

Hi Karl, please pardon my english. What I meant was exactly as what you just wrote. I meant to say good job of finding a background that didn't have any distracting stuff and other birds. I know it is difficult to get the bird in perfect lighting, pose, while finding a background thats pleasing to the eye. Good job again! And did I mention the super sharpness and nice pose?

You are right Karl, it is harder! You did very well to get the BG out of focus. Love the detail in the head feathers. For me the saturation is a little high but I still love the representation of the species.

    Thanks Wynand.
Could you please elaborate on "a better angle" please.
I'm not sure what you mean; better angle in relation to what?
Did you mean low angle maybe?
There was no low angle opportunity there.
The birds are cordoned away which is good.
After all it is a nesting colony.
Where we people were had tall uncut grass.
If I had gone down on my belly, as I did, then I couldn't shoot birds just grass.
But you might have had an other anle in your mind.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks, Karl.

Karl, hats off to you as I appreciate and understand your image. I too was there recently and you certainly have captured a most elegant portrait of this beauty. Wow, the focus is sharp and the BG separated and free of any gannet or gannet part! What a spectacular colony. TFS
