Here they are...the Great Crested Flycatcher Chicks!
It took about a week of getting there at first light (before going to work), but on the last two days I got to see and photograph the chicks at the Great Crested Flycatcher nest. It was tough having to quit and head out to work during peek action (and required tremendous discipline on my part!!), but it was worth it. I would return there straight from work too to check up on them, and on the second day after first seeing them they were fledged and out of sight...
Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/8, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handheld, slight crop for comp, standing on a found 24" log for eye-level perspective (I was tired of lugging a chair to stand on).
Superb image, Daniel. Your perseverance paid off big time (and is really inspiring)
Wonderful light, details and comp. Open beaks on these super cute subjects puts this over the top.
Love it!
Hey Dan, love the peeking out poses from both, and you have certainly nailed the light here. How about those tiny feet clinging onto the edge of the nest. Well captured.
What a wonderful shot. I like how they are peeking out of the cavity. The soft yellow belly and little feet add to the nice feeling these picture evokes,
