Default Atlantic puffin in flight, Maine

The photo was taken from a recent trip on Machias Seal Island in Maine. Took the Bold Coast boat tour from Cutler.

    1D Mark IV, 500 f4, f8, 1/2500, ISO 500, handheld from a blind.

The opening of the blind was pretty low, so the whole hour I was lunging, which was quite an exercise and at the end my legs were shaking like crazy.

    Very nice close up...
A lot of noise noticed, was the shot underexposed?

Nice incoming flight shot. Troy noticed some noise so I had a better look at it and yes, he is right.
You might want to run som NR in the background.

great job grabbing focus on a tough subject, I agree with Troy and Karl regarding noise.

Nice job, would have been nice to get more of the wings in the shot, could be a touch sharper and yes the noise is there.

Thanks all! Let me run a NR and repost. And maybe include more wings to see how it goes with the composition. Thanks!

Great in your face shot. Is he still stuck in the lens hood ?

Hello my friends, I edited the photo and did a NR, and a bit of sharpening. How does it look now?
I originally did a big crop to try to add the impact and get rid of some of the distracting background.

I just used the NR in CS5, hope it works.
I liked the blinds in Machias seal island. The puffins flied so close towards the blind and I could hear lots of them walking on top of the blind. The only drawback was that the opening was quite small and low, so doing flight shots where you had to predict and prepare the flight path was difficult. Oh and did i mention the lunge?

Very nice, Tin Man! I like the original comp better, but the NR in the repost improved the image.

Thanks Jim, that means a lot to me! Those puffin flights are quite fast and erratic, luckily I learned your techniques!
