This morning this egret played with its catch for five minutes (dropping and picking it up), thus the muddy look of the catfish. The sun was pretty harsh at 9:10 AM, but I believe my -2EV compensated . . . I made a lot of exposures and I think this one was the best.

Wendell, I agree with your assessment of the exposure - works really well with the whites in control! Good feeding action captured and nice composition although it feels a little tight in the frame. A little more sharpening will help this one pop. Nicely done Wendell!

nice one Wendell, love the fish in the bill,if mine,I would tone down ,the bright spots on the feet, and a bit more allround, you would get all the birds head shadow in the image, very nice image, thanks.

Nicely exposed. I would have preferred a little more room on the lhs to include the rest of the shadow. Agree with Kerry that another round of sharpening is needed.

wendell, I like the f8, maybe wider open would have worked too but you were working to control the histogram well done. Nice job managing bright whites as you know this can be difficult to do. Maybe a tad lower and more room - nice one here.

Hi wendall....Nice exposure for those whites and love the fish catch. Wish the legs showed up a bit more but since they are in the shadows and you got such a good exposure for the whites it may not be possible. Did you try highlight shadow to bring out the shadows. You might also consider a B&W rendition and try to bring out the shadows

Everyone thinks the egret is too tight in the "frame"; I agree.

Bob, thanks for your suggestion . . . I tried to bring out shadows, but the results seemed to work against the more dramatic effect I wanted.
