This image was created at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary last Saturday. We've had a very dry season and the lakes are nearly dry now. The water levels never came up enough to bring any real amounts of fish this year. Normally this time of year we are in the middle of a feeding frenzy. The south and north lakes fill with millions of large and small fish and they bring in hundreds of birds, otters and gators to finish them off. This heron was taking a rest but still checking out the area. Rod
Hey Rod, This is one fine photos. Adults of this species are tough. I like the soft light and the sharpness. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the yellow twig growing out of the bird's breast. (I will get to your e-mail 2-nite).

Lovely image. I like the pose and perch. The background is very nice, and the taller weeds in the top left add interest. I would get rid of that one yellow stick near the bird's breast. Sharp and well-composed.
Very beautiful capture of the adult black-crowned night heron. Really like the pose and composition as well as the great eye contact.. I too agree about the yellow stick but congratulations Rod on a very fine image. Thanks for sharing.
