I'm trying to make something useful out of bit and pieces of wild animals I've photographed recently … this is my first real attempt.

Some advice is needed though. I don't know how best to finish off the boxes with each image as I feel this is a bit to blockish. I was wondering if I should use an edge filter on each individual square within the rectangle. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

    Many thanks.

Hilary, I really like the monochromatic look to this and the way you made use of some of these bits and pieces is interesting. I'm not sure if you wanted the framing to be thinner on the bottom but to me maybe if you wanted an un-even look to the framing, the top might be better-just my opinion. If you added each separately you could go under layer style>bevel and emboss> and maybe try emboss or pillow or even bevel for some depth. It's one of those things that you have to experiment with for each image and look you want. Hope that helps. I like the way you highlighted the image and added the vignette, I think it helps to bring it all together. It's a wall hanger!

Thanks Denise, I noticed the uneven border after posting and it was unintentional so I'll have to fix it. I'll try some of your edge suggestions and see if they appeal, thanks for the ideas, much appreciated.

I agree with Denise ...

I like what you are doing and the way it is presented. There are many ways of setting off the frames. One that I might also try, though it is your vision as you know! I use a .05 inch black line border on my images around the image, just to "seal" them. Such a border around each image and possibly the inner frame that you have as well might set it off. This is in addition to those Denise mentioned, as they would also possibly bring out your vision.

Nice concept though. Good Luck with it and bring it back for future vieiwng!

Very nice concept and presentation, Hilary. Like the monochrome, embossed look to this, could see large version hanging as part of exhibit or as decor. Good suggestions above.

Beautiful concept, Hilary. I love it! I really like the textured, sepia look. If it were mine, I think I would make the border above and below the middle box the same width as the border around the outside of the inner boxes. Well done.

Nice, Hilary! I agree with the previous suggestions. A suggestion from me would be to have all three elements the same in terms of how they are presented in the frames, either all suspended within the frame or all touching the edge. The tusk seems to be out of place. Actually, I think all three elements would look better suspended as the tusk is, now that I type!!

Thank you for all the great suggestions. Dan, I'll look at the suspension versus grounded in the top edge. Trouble with the tail and the trunk is that those parts are almost full frame so I would have to try manipulating the edge to look natural, something which I found much easier with the tusk as we have all seen tusks removed from the body. But I do take you point and it isn't something which occurred to me.

The border dimensions will be easier to fix, obviously I didn't pay enough attention to that detail and it does let the presentation down.

I may post the separate boxes if I make an attempt to suspend the trunk and tail, just to see if the artwork is acceptable, but it will be a little while as I'm up to my armpits in pixels for another image!
