    Default Monitor question

I have an Eizo CE240W monitor. Calibration isn't a problem but brightness is. I have the brightness set to 100% and when I look at the strip that is at the bottom of each page on this forum, the last two blacks appear the same.

    I have a Mac.

Is there a way to brighten the monitor "a tad" when I can't do it through hardware? If I change the gamma to 2 from 2.2 would this change the contrast (I don't want that) a long with making it brighter?

If you are using Snow Leopard you should be calibrating to 2.2. It should not increase the "contrast" but it should make the last two blacks more distinct.

I'm running Snow leopard calibrated at 2.2 using ColorEyes Display Pro and spyder3 sensor....There is a distinct difference between all of the calibration strip tones on my monitor.

Thanks for commenting Steve. I do use SL and already have the gamma at 2.2. I need to lighten up a bit but cannot do it with hardware.

How old is the Eizo CE240W......monitors get dimmer as they get older.

I want to say 6 or 7 years old. Yes, it would be simple to say toss it and buy a new one. If I want to spend the money that might be the best thing to do, However, I am wondering if there is a way to brighten it and keep it going as few more years.

I misread your original post. Gamma of 2.0 would likely make the issue worse, but it's easy enough to try.

How are you calibrating? You could always try Mac's manual calibration routine to see if you get better results.
