This is great! Excllent image which tells a story! (Morkel - this is exactly what I was referring to - not a great looking specimen but still a fantastic image.)

Incredible the ability of that Camera to handle the ISO the way it does. Love the way the touch of spot works to softly illuminate. Was that the reason for the -1/3 exp? Also like the "red grass' framing him. Looks like he's had a tough long life , but he has the mane of a 3& half year old.

Yes, remarkable fellow. And yes, I'd love to have a D3S and a 500mm lens with it:-).

Thanks for the comments guys. Dumay I usually use the D3s at -1/3 compensation, especially if I have a dark background. I find the camera has a tendency to overexpose slightly in those conditions.

    Chris,

I know you've heard it all before but you are an artist! Every time I see your name on a thumbnail I know I'm in for a treat. We should all be paying you "inspiration royalties!" And best of all, you don't concern yourself with silly strictures such as head angle, messy bird bills, untidy habitat, etc. Keep up the great work!

Hey Ofer...I hear you ...and in my mind this kind of image was always going to be a cracker too (I'm just a bit of a rebel against the accepted norm sometimes )

Chris - this is a stunning portrait, good use of the subtle spotlight too. Mapogo male or Matjingilane (hope I've got the 2nd one right)??

Is it just me or is there a patch of OOF green on the RHS of the lion's face (viewer's LHS)? Was there some foliage between you and him in this area? :2

Thanks again for all the comments everyone! Morkel, I'm not sure which one, I suspect Mapogo. I'm not sure what the green bit is, but I now see it myself (?).

Wow and at iso 6400! Excellent pic of one of the Mapogo brothers. This is Mr.T or Satan whose big mate Kinky Tail was killed last year in a skirmish with the Majingilanes.
