    Default VR, ON OR OFF?

This may seem basic, but I can't find it on a search here and it is always debated pro and con on other sites I visit.
Do most photogs here, leave VR on all the time, no matter what SS, or is there a SS, where you turn if off?
    Does it matter?
I am asking, because there are some who think that it actually distorts at fast SS and it is better to turn it off.
I can't find much difference myself, but I am not at the level of most here.
    Thanks for the responses.

Dan- It may be hard to generalise across camera systems as at least Nikon's VR and Canon's IS might be engineered quite differently. Nikon guru Thom Hogan wrote an article about this back a while. Here it is:

I know many Canon shooters who just leave their IS on all the time, regardless of shutter speed, because there seems to be no cost in IQ in doing so. I leave it on all the time.

Except of course for really slow shutter speeds. e.g. longer than a fraction of a second.

You should trust your eyes. I could tell you it does make some difference. What if I then tell you I can detect the difference when viewing the photograph through a microscope? If you cannot see the difference with your naked eyes, why would it matter to you? If you cannot see the difference, and I told you VR on or off could make a difference, how do you know I'm not lying?
