I'm just back from leading my workshop up in Churchill. We had a wonderful time and loads of great photo opportunities. Here's one species that put smiles on all of our faces :)

Simply superb. Texture on neck is like velvet. Great BG, low angle, head angle good (would be nice if he was looking 3 -4 degrees more towards you). Lovely

Oh yeah, what a beauty! Love the purple sheen on the throat. Exposure is perfect, and great low angle with a neat BG. If anything perhaps tight in the frame, but very impressive image!

Agree with Dan about being a little tight. Lovely in all regards otherwise.

Is the brownish background area as captured ?

Beautiful image Glenn. I love the colors in the BGD and the red eye just pops.

    Glenn:

Lovely bird, good shooting angle, sharp, well exposed, nice angle in frame. Yes to a bit tight, but really outstanding. As a loon fan, I can see I will have to make the trip 'way up north' to capture these fellows.

I am curious about your shooting setup? Boat, kayak, how are you mounting your rig to get this low?

    Cheers

Thanks Randy! To answer your Q I was simply laying on the tundra right at the waters edge. I got soaked....but it was worth it!

    Thanks Glenn:

Did you need camo of any sort? I am assuming that the circumstances are such that you can't drop a boat into these lakes. ? I spend a lot of time working our common loons, and without a boat, the shooting opportunities would be really limited.

    Thanks
