I love avocets...I just wish we had them up here in New England.

Love the pose, sharpness, eye contact and the water drop.

I'm thinking it could be a hair brighter?

Lovely low angle, and I love the water reflecting of the avocet and the single drop on the water surface. As is I could see some trimmed off the top as I find the subject rather low in the frame.

The blues complement the avocets colors nicely. I also like the open beak and forward leaning posture.

Thx. The light was very very warm that evening. I have used a cooler WB for this..hence the blue water. I also processed the same image to reflect the bright orange light....which is closer to reality. With such light, I am usually in two minds as to what I prefer. Your opinion appreciated.....

Beautiful image and lovely pose. I think the background really sets this one off nicely.

Beautiful pose above the water, I like the partial reflection. I do like the warmer WB in the repost. The warmer tones are more appealing to me for some reason.

great shot Kaustubh, have you changed the DPP PS settings? I am asking because the colors look a bit muted compared to the real life Avocet in this plumage and sweet light.

Good job on the repost KD, and the angle works well. Overall, you have exposed this nicely, and I do like the droplet in between the bill.

I prefer the repost, the warmer feel sets the time of day better for me.

Arash, do you think the Avocet color looks muted in my repost? In the first post, yes, the orange looks muted which I am attributing to the cooler WB that I used. I am going through the better images again and re processing them. I usually set color sat to 2 in DPP.

I didn't see the repost, it looks better there. I use standard picture style with no sat. boost, it usually comes out pretty darn close to the original scene. I think the AWB works a bit better on the newer cameras so you may need to adjust that more carefully with the 40D.

A killer IMG  Great sharp detail and IQ. Like the low angle . Subject is well exposed with good natural colours against a killer DOF. Well done !
