Welcome here Brendon! Glad you were finally able to join up. This is a craker (congrats on it being selected for Earthshots today too!).
Excellent use of lighting here...I assume a spotlight from the side? No doubt this will open a can of worms here regarding the use of lighting on nocturnal animals...I believe you can add a lot to those questions due to your experience as a guide in the Sabi Sands for many years.![]()
Welcome Brendon, splendid first up posting!
One of my favourite types of images, the subtle use of the spotlight, ........must show this to Steve K.
The determined look on the leopards face is well depicted here, if you had it looking up would have put this over the top, but I'm being picky.

Thanks very much Morkel. Great to finally be on here and look forward being part of the community. Ha ha yes indeed, the spotlighting discussion is one of those that has been debated for some time![]()
Welcome Brendon! and this is first ball six

Welcome Brendon, excellent first image. I like the bit of movement seen in the paw.
TFS,
Rachel
This is a stunning image! Felt it needs some more room top and right. WDYT?

Welcome Brendon. Sabi Sand my favorite reserve in all of Africa. (That could also open another can of worms!!)
Nice night shot, night shots most difficult. I like what Ofer added and I'd also consider cropping a bit off of left side. Love the composition, entangled bodies, the impala's pleading look at me.
Tom

Thanks very much all for the great welcome and comments.
Ofer, that indeed does work and the original uncropped image was more like this, i decided to crop as i thought it was verging on a little too central?![]()
Hi Brendan
welcome aboard , good to see you here(was chatting to Wim about your work the other day:S3)
Great image, I really like Ofers crop version...
looking forward to many more of your quality images ....
WOW - since the original is close to the repost I think this image can win major competitions! In the repost I don't think the subject is centred at all. There is also enough room on the top right where it comes from and enough room on the left to walk into. I wouln't crop off the left as suggested as I like this somewhat untraditional presentation.
Congratulations on very special image!![]()
Hi Brendon, good to see Morkel got you on board eventually.
Great to see a regular animal shot in different light which gives a nice feel to it overall, but agree on the debate about the use of spotlights, however...love the colour & depth that the night feel brings to the image. Nicely done considering it's a MKII & such high ISO too. Certainly adding more BG helps, but it's not an ideal crop I feel and obviously would not win any major awards due to the manipulation of BG sadly .
Look forward to seeing more.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.

Thanks guys for all your great comments
Ofer thanks very much for your advice will have a look at the original
Thanks very much Steve, Ofer added bg to my posted image but my original has more space as in his repost so no manipulation needed![]()
OK Brendon, but this was not clear sadly to me.
If when posting you can also add FF, cropped etc that would really help.
Thanks for the info.

Hey Brendon....Great to see you here. This is a fantastic forum with great advice and friendly/ helpful people. Hope you stay and share your images with us for a long time. I like this a lot(so nice to see your images a bit bigger
) Like Ofer's repost on the comp. Did you adjust the exp in camera at all?

Thanks Dumay, great to be on here! no exposure adjustments in camera![]()
An excellent shot with nice color and drama. The line of light leading up to the animals emerging from the darkness makes this one a winner. Like Ofer's suggestion with the extra space behind.
Thanks for that...I have used the spotlight for jackals and such even some nightjars but find I normally need to drop exp in camera so I wondered if had to do the same. Where I work I get a few night time opportunities with the big cats, but I dont use spotlight for them. So I decided I didnt want to miss out any more. Your flashwork inspired me to buy a flash so I got one yesterday. Now I will have to learn to use it.:2![]()

ha ha thats great Dumay, flash when used correctly can add so much to an image, it will take a bit of practice but you will soon get the hang of it![]()
