My son called me yesterday, he found two chicks next to a tree. He sent me a photo from his camera (attached). I called a friend, a wildlife specialist who focus on birds. She has over 100 babies in her garage (abandoned, etc.) all progressing towards their release.

She said we could build a nest and put the chicks in the tree. After feeding them per her instructions. Brock built a nest and watched from afar. If the plan did not work we would bring them to her for care. 45 minutes later, he saw a birds cautiously approaching the man-made nest and feeding the chicks shortly afterwards - happy ending.

She further said, leave the chick be if possible. The other options is to re-nest or in this case build a new nest. Anyway, that was a fun and rewarding time for Brock and me.

Quite the balls of fluff. And what a nice ending to this story!

Good story Jeff, and a great outcome. We get lots of calls in the office about chicks falling out of nests. Often it's older chicks that have left the nest and people think they are not being cared for. In these cases it is much better to leave them alone. In your son's case, the chicks are clearly not independent so needed to be put back in a nest, and he did it! Now we need to have some fun on the species. Don't give it away just yet (if you know) and see what people think.
