He was running as the wave was coming. I went with a less traditional crop - space behind the bird, showing him running away. Not sure if I like it or not. Thoughts?

I think this is absolutely stunning Tom- a real eye catcher and wall hanger. Love the idea. Love the colour bands from blue to green, the water coming off the back foot. I like the OOF specular highlights in the BG but you could soften the ones that have a hard edge. Very well done on this.

    Tom,
The image quality is excellent. I would love to see this as a pano crop, taking some off the top. I am ok with the bird placed to the right but the problem is that I cannot tell that he is running away from the wave. To my eye, the wave is coming at him. I would like to see this pic with more room in front of the bird to compare both!Love the blues.

Thank you John and Gail. Here is a pano with some of the specular highlights blurred.

Very nice shot. I prefer your re-post over the org. I hope you don't mind as I took a little more off the bottom where the greyish color was at.

bThe reposts are valid alternatives, but you know, I still REALLY like the bird in habitat in the OP. The reposts are different images and show clearly how a crop can profoundly modify the "look and feel" of an image.

I like the alternative pano crop -- and particularly with the highlights blurred.

I love the OP, including the habitat in this image just seems to attract my eye. All options are fine but the first gets my vote. I really like this picture, love the way you used DoF.

I'm with the original post. Colors are sweet, along with the "jeweled" highlights. I di get the running momentum when I see this, very nice. TFS

Tom my thumb is up for the original, I like it just fine as is. Not every image has to fit a mold in my opinion, but then I do hang out in OOTB...

I like the blurring in the repost but like the crop of the original.
    Very sharp and well exposed.

Tom, sorry I'm late to comment but I love the OP (of course I hang out in OOTB also) Seriously, though, I like the story it conveys and the different layers in the bg. I could see cropping about half of the gray fg but I like it as it is.
