Sorry couldn't resist this one and it will be the last, as it was from the same sequence as the previous one, but might just give a bit more scale of the PB? Same issues shooting from a boat, so would have preferred a bit more at the foot of the image. Dig those paws.

Thought I would add this, as a few people have asked what this 1953 ice breaker looked like.

Steve - that bear looks massive. Beautiful color and I like the pose with the raised leg. The ice almost looks like carpeting (maybe a tad oversharpened?). Comp works for me. Thanks for also including the boat photo. Still on the table for a possible 2013 trip.

Bravo Steve, excellent image of these beautiful bears. Well done on using a polariser, as it must have helped with snow and water colours. I like the raised paw and H/A. I am going to do this trip one day, must have been awesome.

Hi Rachel, well you know who to use and it is a great ship, Lisa is a top guide and would certainly give most men a run for their money if a rifle needed to be fired. I know what you mean about the snow, hence my comment in the OP, it even has a tad of NR over it to.

Hi Vivaldo I had to post this having spent the past 4 days off & on with Avian stuff as few know. Very frustrating so I felt I needed to get back to more manageable areas. I not holly convinced about using a drop in, as my fear is always that it attracts more dust into the lens and really the 500 does give good colour without using it IMHO.

Steve, this is a great image. I really like the HA, the raised paw, the sense of motion, & the blood on the feet. Nicely done.

Amazing detail in the Polar Bear..........the blueish/grey tint to ice is that normal?

lovely bear, IQ and pose here Steve...I assume a polariser is invaluable with the water and snow and ice reflecting light that messes with the metering?

I am also curious, like Peter, about the colour of the ice?

Amazing animal, and I love all the details you got in the fur. The blood-stained paws are really cool. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more room for the comp, and I can't help but feel the image could a bit of CCW rotation.

Snow normally does have a blueish cast to the shadows (especially on sunny days), so it looks quite natural to me.

Nice timing on the pose of the bear, I like the raised paw and head turn. Nicely detailed too. The contrast between the bright white of the bear and the dark blue of the water looks real good. Agree with Daniel that it needs a touch of CCW adjustment.

    Hi Steve,
It must have been a terrific experience. Would love to visit that place some day. My personal preference is to tone down the blues by using the polariser a bit less than the max setting. I agree that changing the polariser often catches dust. However, I am wondering whether Svalbard is dusty?

Look forward to more images of these endangered animals.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi
