    Default American Avocet

Taken at the Radio Road Pond in Redwood City. It is an excellent location for Avocets, Stilts, and other shorebirds.

There are a few jagged edges on the bill from sharpening for web that I was too lazy to take care of.

Love the low angle, soft light, and wonderful setting/background!
Excellent pose, exposure, and detail as well!

For my taste, would like to see a bit more room all around, but especially at the bottom to give some room to the virtual feet.

Aidan, what a shot...loved the pose, HA, low angle, soft light, whites, BG....excellent DOF coverage. would like to see it bigger though :-) narrow FOV of 500 makes a big difference in the BG( comparing with similar compositions with my 400)

    Thanks everyone!

Mike: I am OK with the amount of space, but I agree that some extra wouldn't hurt, especially at the bottom.

KD: Yes, the 500 is great for backgrounds, and it certainly makes bird photography in general a bit easier. I do still love the 100-400 though.

Aidan, Beautiful image and nice colors for the back ground. I agree w/ Mike while it's not tight a little more room would be nice. However it's your vision that counts.

Aiden- this is quite superb. For all the reasons give above. Based on the water I would rotate CCW ever so slightly.
