    Default Pied-billed Grebe.

    Attached Images Attached Images

Taken at a local storm water management pond, where the water has gotten low enough to expose the concrete slab that is often submerged in an inch or two of water...this, of course, allowed me to lay flat on it to get the low angle desired. Audio used to lure grebe in front of a clean BG (lots of distractions left and right of the frame). The head's reflection was skimming the bottom edge (zoom wider!!), so I added canvas to rectify this.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/1000s., f/6.3, ISO 400, +1 EC, natural light, handheld, slightly cropped top and left for composition.

Stunning image! (you deserve to get a longer lens....) Eye looks a bit "doctored"...

Very nice Daniel.... I have a but coming...it doesn't look as crisp as your usual images there doesn't seem to be the usual amount of detail, especially in the bill and neck??

What a great colour combination. I really like the layering.''Interesting that you were able to lure a water bird into position using audio. I have only seen it used a few times on small land birds which would seem much easier to get desired location and bird position.

Absolutely cracking stuff. Lovely BG & colors.

Area around the eye looks a bit softer to me.

    Thanks guys!

The bill and eye look good to me, but yes most of the head/neck looks soft...perhaps due to subject movement.

Ofer, the pupil was quite hazy so I darkened it in post...and yes at times I'd love a longer lens!!

Daniel, this is my kinda image. Dont you just feel great when those low angle spots get exposed? Terrific BG, I must say....and calm water always helps with super-low angle. Superb shot.

I am also a bit surprised with the softness in the head at 1/1000s. If mine, I'd remove the second catchlight.

BG and shooting angle just fab!

but to me the bird is soft head, eye neck area

    its still a marvellous shot

btw one of these turned up near here in the UK last year - thousands of twitchers/photographers turned up; a very rare visitor to these parts (1 in 7years!)

Ditto Kaustubh. Great low angle, colors, and insight using audio and the concrete slab to get a good angle. Bummer about the slightly soft head.

    Well done as always!

I love the BG Daniel..... Kinda dreamy background you get when you shoot from a yak.

Their call is really neat and they are very curious.

It is a lovely image and I agree about the head/neck being soft. Just tell him to sit still next time.

    Nice HA

Daniel I like this picture a lot. The shooting angle is very low at eye level and sharpness is wonderful. Well done
