Default Least Tern Bathing at the Lagoon

Visited the Lagoon and was fortunate to see this species and its behavior.
Typical enhancements of the image were made. Tripod used. Cropped slightly.
Clipped the wings of the bird seconds later as it took flight.
I feel I'm still struggling to produce an optimally sharp image.

I like the low angle Bob.

I wish that I could see some more detail around the eyes.

Low angle works very well here and you caught an interesting pose!

Pose would also lend itself to a vertical version.

Nice low angle on this neat bathing behaviour you got. Interesting "hooks" formed by the flapping wings. Exposure looks good, but wish you had better light angle to better light the shadowed side of the tern. Comp-wise I feel the bird needs to be centered more with a near full frontal view. A vertical could work well too, provided the comp does not become too tight.

I feel I'm still struggling to produce an optimally sharp image.
As for sharpness, are you struggling with in-camera sharpness, or with sharpening in post? The image looks properly focussed...but does seem like it could use more sharpening for web.

Wonderful pose, and like the light, water beads, and low angle on this, Bob. Good suggestions above to make it even stronger!

Shooting angle is nice and so is the pose. I agree with Daniel's comp. suggestion. Details do look a little soft.
