What a great shot Michael. I like the wing position on this one. I think you can bring out some more details in the whites with a very small level adjustment. It will also darken the sky a bit for you, and bring the bird out better. It's just my opinion.

    Great title!

Prefer the OP as the repost darkens the underwing and makes the strong light more of a problem, in my opinion. Nevertheless, some selective work on the left wing and the head would probably help.

    Gary, Gerald,

Thanks much for the comments. Gary, your repost looks good... perhaps, something in the middle for my taste, but good idea on the adjustment.

    Cheers,

Hi Michael, nice capture of an interesting behavior. I like the wing position too but wish that there were light on the far wing as well. A wee bit of detail lost on the near wing which you probably would have gotten at 1/2000 sec. Pretty tough shooting these guys in the full sun but you did a good job with it. A little more detail would be nice and I wish the stick weren't covering up so much of the head. Gary's repost helped the near wing a bit but everything else went too dark for my eye.

I'm sure you'll get more practice with these guys! Shooting egrets and terns in the full sunlight is a big challenge, but go for it!

I think you just inspired a new saying Michael. "The early bird gets it..." My favorite camping/shooting schedule is up early with the birds, kick back during the mid-day hours, and back to shooting in the late afternoon. Big fun!

Great behavioral shot! I've never seen one carry a stick, especially one so long. Very nice wing position!
