    Default Landing Snail Kite

On our last evening on Lake Toho with Jim Neiger, we found some really active Snail Kites with beautiful plumage. This photo was taken in the fading light of the day as a handsome male came in for a landing.

The light is making him glow, lovely. The shadow of the beak on his chest confused me a bit at first.

Beautiful incoming pose and light. I wish the eye was lighter or more illuminated to be better able to see it.

Was the background worked on at all ?

Thanks Doug. I noticed the respective areas right off the bat. This image is worth tweaking to perfection.

That said their is nothing remotely fatally wrong with the original background and you could easily leave it as is.

What beautiful warm plumage, Doug! Such a stunning shot. Might be nice to see it without the shadow of the beak.

Excellent pose captured and beautiful soft light. The BD colours are also excellent, and the perch on the FG adds nicely TFS

Excellent image Doug. Very different from many snail kite images I have seen.

What beautiful light. I love everything about this shot except for the shadow of beak on his breast. I find it a bit distracting. This is a minor nit.
Love the flared out tail and talons.

Cool wingspread Doug, and love the concentrated pose for the approach. The light looks sweet, and the kite does stand out against the darker BG.
