During the past SWF IPT I had the pleasure of meeting Humberto and his flash !!! One nice person to have around .... never a dull moment !!!

A couple of days into the workshop he brought out the mother of all flash units :D Don't recall anyone having a more powerful unit during a workshop  Serious muscle power is needed to carry it around. The power source is the same size as a car battery and just as heavy .... but delivers the goods !!!! :):)

Here Humberto is making the final adjustments before blasting !!!!

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

He did! Lit up the entire island at the Venice Rookery before the sun came up! I think Giulio and can both attest that you do not want to get in front of that thing!

I remember my surprise when I saw the 'little' battery. If I'm not mistaken he flashed Giulio, who looked a bit shell-shocked afterwards. :)

Man, that is one big flash and battery set-up and looking at the size of those calf muscles, Humberto is built to use such a rig as well:)

It was a "blast" meeting such a nice group and had a lot of fun.

It was the first field test for the flash and I still have to play more with the power adjustment (to get the bird medium or well done). The bird came o.k. but the eyes came white. I will post some images, but this baby can illuminate the night.

From the bird's point of view I believe it is safe. In a photo-shoot with a model she will receive a couple hundred shots directly in her face at a close distance and besides the extra tan they do not report side effects.

The nice thing is that after the first flash the subject remains very still and easy to work with as Giulio and Beth can testify.

Being a Tim the Tool-man Taylor type ;) I was/am definitely interested in this one. Once my "finance minister" recovers from the sticker shock of my second D3 (arrives today :D ) I'll be giving Humberto a yell.

Not to steal anyone's thunder (caused by the lightning bolt from that huge flash no doubt :D ) , but I spent the entire two weeks in FL paranoid that something was going to happen to my D3 and I'd be "stuck" with my backup, so I decided I better get a second.

I didn't really get to know Humberto much until the second half of the trip (introvert that I am and all) but I wish I had sooner. He is a great guy who is always happy.

Yes, we were truly stunned into insensibility. I still see a perfectly circular after image when I close my eyes!

Seriously, like Jim, I didn't get to know you until the end of the IPT, which was my loss. I have to say, I don't think I've ever been on a group trip in which the entire group (including the leaders) was so fun and friendly. It was a great experience.

Now that'll make the birdies duck and cover! Probably a good fill flash for capturing detail in across-the-sun silhouettes.

Fascinating. Respect for thinking to hang the power pack from the tripod... dual use :-)
