    Default Golden Oats Filter

Some lab mode curves for tone and color only. Shot through a layer of sunny yellow oats for color and texture.

Interesting composition, Michael. I like the idea but wish there was a bit more details coming through the fg layer. But that's just me. The soft color is nice, TFS.

Thanks, Indranil. A bit of a long term project working this technique since just the right combination of lit screening and bg subject has to present itself (& the photographer has to be looking for it ).

I agree some more details would be better.

    Cheers,

Michael, I believe they refer to this technique as "color washing". You use the color of the FG items to wash over the BG items. If I'm understanding that this is your intent then I'd suggest trying to get a bit more color from the golden FG into the BG. That said, I do like the washed over look here...just not fond of the darker spots that come into the scene. Getting more color upfront and still making out the BG items would be the ultimate goal here. Very nice first try, though!

I like the look of this and hope you continue to share your progress in using this method. I think the image works rather well. There is a luminosity that I like. I wish there were more detail in the middle right, and that the one dark area at the top were less dark.

    Julie, Anita,

Thanks much for your comments. There are some things I really like in this image but they're not quite enough to carry everything... (A shorter lens would probably help... I was out birding at 600mm ).

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
