People have asked me in the past: What's the hardest bird you've tried to photograph?
I had been trying for 7 years, 5 months, 12 days, locally here in Ottawa to photograph a Connecticut Warbler with no luck.
Well I decided to do something about that and flew to Manitoba, rented a car and drove to Riding Mountain National Park.
Lots of rainfall and flooding prevented me from going to many areas but Riding Mountain was not one of them.
On the 3rd day of looking I was finally able to track one down but never quite out in the open.
Not the best photo, heavily zoomed but the only one I could get of this highly elusive bird.
In 50 years of birding in OttawaI have only seen one Connecticut Warbler. It was one I caught when I wasrunning the banding station near the airport. You done good going to where theybreed.
As far as I am concerned that is a great image of a notoriously difficultbird to see. I remember trying to track one down in Manitoba. After several hours chasing the incessantly singing male I gave up without somuch as a glimpse. And thanks Paul for introducing me to this fabuloussite.
Hi Rick- Big welcome to BPN. Are you a photographer? If so, look forward to seeing your images. Also feel free to comment on ID questions etc in our All about birds forum.
One thing that makes birding fun, for me anyway, is the nemesis birds- those you just never see. I'm out and about quite a bit but still have lots of these, and some are pretty easy.
If taking images with a camera makes me a photographer I qualify but after aquick perusal of this site I am a very poor one.
However I seem to have done one thing right I have asked Paul Lagasi to helpme. Paul is a great resource and a fantastic person to deal with. I just purchased a Nikon D5100 package and hope tofinally get some good images.
