Default Canon5D mk2 - Is there an interlock between spot metering and AF points ?

    Folks,
    Appreciate your kind inputs -

In case of Spot metering with Canon 5D Mk2 and Canon 7D ,

Does the metering spot shift if the AF point selected is different from the centre AFpoint ?
    Or
Does the spot metering area still remains in the centre even if the AF is away from the centre ..for eg, on extreme left or right of the matrix metering grid ?

Is the feature equally applicable to 5D Mk2 as well as 7D ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,

Spot metering on the 5D Mk II and 7D is always based on the area at the center of the viewfinder. The only difference is the size of the spot (3.5% of viewfinder for 5D Mk II and 2.3% of viewfinder for 7D).

The pro bodies (1D series) have a Custom Function that enables you to link Spot Metering to the selected AF point.

To be more specific about what is possible with the 1D bodies :

If you are using Automatic Focus Point Selection, spot metering will always be based at the center of the viewfinder regardless of the active AF point or how you set Custom Functions.

In manual AF point selection mode, it is possible to link spot metering to the selected AF point via a Custom Function BUT ONLY IF you have also limited the number of selectable AF points to be less than the maximum of 45 points. The details of this limitation and how to set the Custom Functions differ by camera model.
