    Default Western Tanager

Here in Montana we are incredibly fortunate, there is an abundance of wildlife to photograph. This time of year it is like clockwork, the western tanagers move for about a 10 day period. Tonight was rainy, but at any given time there were 80 to 100 tanagers in the yard. The yard was awash with color! Wonderful.
Here is one of over 700 we shot tonight in about an hour - there are a few others in our "Last Few Months" gallery on our web site.

Jaime, lovely bright colours on this guy, and Im glad we can see both eyes from this head on pose. Sharp where it counts, and I would maybe remove the small highlight on the end of his beak.

The colors on this bird are simply breathtaking. I am glad to see both eyes and both feet. I find the branch in the BG distracting and I also would remove that highlight on the end of the beak. When you look at that litlte guy's face, it's the first thing you notice.

Would you be so kind as to include your settings?

That must be quite the experience to witness so many tanagers in your yard!! I'll bet you look forward to that time of year every year

This guy looks like he is blushing as you take its' picture. A whimsical look really. I agree with Marina about the BG branch, and it looks as if some the brighter yellows are hot or clipped, especially near the throat. I would be tempted to enhance highlights that are seemingly faintly present on the eyes - just to give them a bit more twinkle and life.

Thanks for sharing, and hope to see more from this species!!

Strangely, all the clipping is on and around the head... If you visit the ER you will find lots of tips on saving the REDs and the YELLOWs.

I would have love to have seen this larger: 800 pixels tall. Killer expression and a killer bird.
