Been a while since I posted, I've been so busy taking pics that I barely have time to upload them, let alone look at them or work on them! But need to start posting again,I always learn so much from doing so.
Took this in a wetlands near my home a week ago as a few stragglers were migrating through central NY. In nice evening light that was very warm. Don't think I blew out the whites completely, but did need a little Highlights adjustment on the throat in PS4. Did smart sharpening and then sharpened eye some more. Cloned out some messy stuff in water. Wondering if crop is ok or too close? This is about a 30% crop, these guys were easy to get close to.
    And do whites look ok?

Thanks so much in advance for any comments or critiques.

Super pose from the plover. Whites look fine Melissa. Comp wise, I would probably crop off at the bottom, in the reflection where the knees bend ( I think the knees are the ankles )

Lovely evening light, and beautiful pose. I'd second Stuart's suggestion of crop -- the partial body reflection does nothing for the image IMHO. Whites look fine to me, and the feather detail is very nice.

I agree with above comments. Can you include the entire leaf? I wish it wasn't cut off. The whites are fine.

Thanks for your comments. I am posting a version cropped a bit on the bottom, as suggested. Gail, I wish I could include the entire leaf, but I didn't have any more than that in the original.

This is beautiful, Melissa! Great pose, light, and crop works well. Am wanting to see just a little bit more of the leaf, but still very nice composition.

He is a cutie Melissa, I like the second crop better without the reflection.

great shot, nice details and the repost is an improvement, the clipped branch on the right is a bit distracting, I would clone it out.

Prefer the repost, light is great and the textures lovely. I would clone out the plant on the right of the image.

    Hi Melissa,
A very pleasing image. Sharp with lovley pose. White are almost hot - can't see much detail.I feel that a lower shooting angle could have been even nicer. I feel that in your repost the bird is a bit too big in the frame and the cut plant is not helping. Here is another option in which the bird is a bit smaller and the plant is not cut on the side. Didn't address the other issues.

Thanks Ofer. I do think you've improved it. Wish I could have gotten lower but I was up on a bit of a bank. As for the whites--they are my nemesis! Still working away at it.
Thanks so much for your repost and suggestions.

    No worries Melissa!
Are you exposing manually? If not just try it and expose so that the whites are not clipped - you can't go wrong and it is so easy!!!
