A Rainbow Lorikeet feeding on a banksia.
A zoom lens would have been useful here to give the bird a bit more room but I do like the pose and the detail.
Is the bird too big in the frame?

    Canon 50D, 400f/5.6L, 1/100s, f/5.6, ISO 400, Av mode, 0 EC, tripod + Mongoose head
full frame, minimal PP (levels, curves, sharpen)

    C&C always welcome.

I do find the bird a bit big in the frame, and would like to see the tail, but as you say you couldn't just zoom out.

Nice to see one of these guys in the wild - I see two in my living room every day but they are wild in a different sense of the word!

This is one of those shots that is way too nice to delete but you keep looking at it and saying "I wish I could see the tail"!!
The perch is great, feather detail is great, head angle is great but...no tail.
What about cropping it to do a tight head shot?

I agree about the framing, but everything else is just awesome. Beautiful bird!
