Very nice Dumay. I like the comp, techs look good, was it overcast. I would maybe increasing SAT a little, the green looks just a tad weak to me. TFS

Dumay, this ticks all the boxes for me. I love the position and the BG is yummy. I love the feather detail in the bird's left wing. Great light. My only minor night is that I wish the right wing was a bit more visible.

Thanks for the comments guys...Chris if you look you will see a shadow on the body under the right wing, you dont get that when its overcast....Colors are as close to spot on as my eyes see it when I took the image and what i know there colors to look like. Gail I also wish for a better near wing position. Om gonna have to try get another one to see if it does get any better!

Beautiful light and colours! Killer BG too. I like the pose. Head looks slightly soft to me.

Thanks Ofer...Interesting you say that, I have many shots of this species stationary and some flight. I always find the head never seems a s sharp as the rest. Lacks detail for some reason...I have even noticed it on other photographers images of this same species (On the forum I belong to in SA). Only time I seem to pick up detail is when I take close up images of them...>Or maybe im doing something wrong!

Had another look and I think it is just my aging eyes - looks sharp at least at this size. i assume you pre-focused on the perched bird so when it flys it can fly out of the focus field. I don't think this is the case in here.

    Dumay:

Excellent timing, nice BG, love the stretch.

Gail's point about the near wing is a good one. I suspect this is the best frame overall of the series, so will have to live with this to get the best in other areas.

If you could have moved a bit to your right, might have helped, but he might have angled off the perch differently.

The far wing does look slightly sharper to me than the head. Where was your focus point?

    Cheers

Nice pose, nice sharpness and BGD. I might check the blacks and or contrast, the colors look somewhat dull to me.

Dumay, loved the moment you captured...with one foot still on the perch and the other barely leaving.....excelent bird angle, exposure, details and BG. Good call on increasing the ISO to get the high SS.

Thanks for the comments guys....Randy I went back to the raw file head looks sharp/ as sharp a portraits I have done of this species as I said they always look like they are lacking a bit of detail, except for close ups. Interesting to hear from some SA togs on this sight if they have had the same issue with this species. After resizing it loses a bit of sharpness but still looks reasonably sharp. The bird was parallel to the sensor so I would think that if the body was sharp the head would be too.

The focus points I used were all the outside 19 points on the MKIII, the bird and body fits just within and the points are showing on the head...I had a look in DPP. I have seen people posting the image with the focus points to show where there focus points are or were. But I am not sure how to do that...If someone could tell me how (On a mac) I would appreciate it...I have also posted a 100% crop of the head unedited for people to see sharpness.

    Fantastic image, Dumay.
I absolutely love the slanted perch positions in the LLC. The pose, bg and colors are fantastic.
    I love it. Great work.

I have no qualms at all with this image. As usual, it is more than sharp enough for me. I love that the bird is angling toward us, I love the toes on the perch, and I love the BKGR. WTG!

What a take off pose and IQ ! Like the full stretch off the body and the wing position takes this over the top. I like the comp and the bg is a killer. Well done Dumay

How is the action there ?
