This image of five Black Vultures on a branch was created on the morning of June 13 with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens and the EOS-1D Mark IV from my vehicle with the lens supported by a BLUBB. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/250 sec. at f/16. Lens/Camera Body Micro-Adjustment: 0.

Awesome shot, Artie. Well seen, exposed, executed and composed. I like that the one with the slightly open wings is right there at ROT line.

Very cool. I love pics of birds in 3's and 5's. They must love that perch judging by all the poop!!As you said, great head angles.

Nice and sharp with strong composition. Not the most attractive perch but you did your part very well.

    Great picture, Artie.
Based on your description, lot of work went into in PP to make it look like this good.
Composition wise I would have left out the one on the right.
Without the one on the right, the birds would have all been looking towards each other as if having a conversation.

Love it as presented . All of them are tack sharp ...guess the f16 helped that . Getting more than 2 here in India would be a dream .

Hey Artie, I love the five head angles, each one looking back at you one way or another.

Would it improve the image if the perch and legs were darkened slightly more ?

Five to ten minutes at most. I like the disinterested bird--it adds some tension to the scene.

Perhaps, especially the legs. As per the blog post, I had darkened the whole thing but painted out the whites on the birds....

Excellent comp, light, perfect HAs and sharpness. Masterfully done!
It appears that the fifth one isn't happy that the second guy is show-boating and has the attention of the other three :)
    Lovely image!

Thanks Arash. Nope, no relation :). There were about 25 of them in this tree coming and going.
