This is an image of a famous rock formation in Monument Valley. Only accessible using a native american guide. The rock is that red at first light. I like this but not sure if this works well and would like to hear others reaction...
Topaz detail and Nik filter.
I like the way the pattern in t5he sand takes the eye to the monument. Not sure if you need all that foreground. I think a bit off the bottom would still work in this image. Love the color of the stucture and the B&W works well.
Not sure how I feel about the starkness of the red against the b&w but love the design of the image with the ripples in the sand providing lovely, strong diagonal lines. Perhaps I'll need to come back and look at it again in a little while. Very well seen, though.
I also think about half off the bottom would work better - you'll still get that great sand design in the image but it will move the eye up to the red rock a bit sooner. Love the bright red against the b/w BG!!!
Agree with the crop idea. In theory, the bottom balances out the stark red, but then, when you scroll down to where some of the bottom is not showing, the totem suddenly grabs you more. The intensity of the red seems to balance the intensity of the BW --good choice
Very, very cool looking image, Dave. That must be quite a site to see in person! Like the processing, and think Joe may have a point regarding taking some off the bottom. Nicely done!
Hi Brendan, I've been there on 3 different occasions. The place is a bit magical. The light doesn't last long so I generally have 3-4 compositions figured out when it's time to shoot. When the light dissipates that rock becomes a muddy brown...
