Really nice capture, Gail! Good sh, exp and bg! I really wish that he was looking at use but we can really see the crossed mandibles here. BTW, this is a White-winged Crossbill! even better! I would crop off the right if it were mine.

Great find Gail! I love the perch and the background, your crop and exposureare fine as well.

The birds positioning is not the best but I am sure next time he will turn for you and he may even wink

    Hi guys,
I do have a better head turn of this guy but you can't see the "cross"bill as well so that's why I chose it. I will post the other pic for your "viewing pleasure!"
Thanks Dan for picking up my mistake re:bird ID. This guy was among a flock of red crossbills so I labelled him the same.

IQ and detail look really good and the perch and BG are fantastic...HA is not ideal but if you were trying to show the crossed bill you did it, but I would really like to see it with the better HA...I look forward to you posting it!

For me a better head angle would trump the need to better see the cross mandibles...you can normally tell they are crossed even when the head is angles towards us anyways.

I like the fresh leaves, and well exposed (although the the blacks could be made darker). Beautiful BG. To answer your specific question: I like the crop you chose.

The basic problem here is that the bird is both facing away from us (on a slight angle) and is also leaning forward and looking down, thus we are not seeing much of the bird at all.... EXP, SH, and d-o-f all good but the pose/posture buried you from the get-go. Nice crossed mandibles though.

Nice colours, beautiful background and perch.
It's a shame that the bird is turning away from us.
I'm looking forward to seeing your next picture with a better head angle, Gail.
