Default Images change from Lightroom to PS5

Running the latest versions of Lightroom & PS5 including Adobe RAW.

When I select a raw image in lightroom to edit in CS5 (right-click, Edit in CS5), then once in PS5 don't make any adjustments but simply save the file (defaults to .tif).

I then go back to LR and view the raw and tif side by side. The tif seems slightly less saturated and has less contrast than the original raw file.

Is this experience to be expected?

    Richard,

Are you using a calibrated monitor and color managed workflow? Are both images in Adobe RGB or other tagged colors?

If not, you probably need to calibrate your system. If you already did a calibration, then perhaps something is not set right, or some other software also is calibrating, so the two are fighting. Check this page:

and make sure everything is consistent.

Let us know what you find.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I calibrate the monitor monthly and am using Adobe RGB in-camera for RAW.

Not sure where, or if, you set color space in LightRoom - can you give me some guidance there?

CS5 was inadvertently set to sRGB and I changed it back to ProPhoto RGB.

I'm going to re-do a few images and check before/after once I find out how to set up LightRoom correctly.

Richard, I think this is what you are looking for in both programs.

    Jay,
I thought those Lightroom settings were settings used when sending an image to an external editor. I'm looking for something that tells you what color space Lightroom uses for its image displays.

In either case, all the settings shown are set to ProPhoto RGB.

This may help you on color in LR.

first paragraph.....You don’t need to choose color settings or color profiles until you are ready to output your photos.

I have the same color space in both Lightroom & CS5 and also adjusted the background in CS5 to exactly match the Lightroom Medium Grey (R:128, G:128, B:128).

And now the images appear correctly whether in LR or CS5.

And if I send a RAW to CS5, and just save, creating a .tif ... when I view the RAW & .tif in LR, they now appear the same. Whew, back on track!

    Thanks all for your input.

Many times adobe products need to be shut down and restarted after changes have been made in order for the changes to take place.
