This Reddish Egret surprised me by landing right in front of me while I was on my belly in the sand photographing shorebirds. I quickly released my camera from the tripod, sat up and began photographing this RE but I had too much lens. I added a little canvas on the bottom with QM and cropped to vertical.

    Canon 1D3, Canon 400DO & 1.4 @ 560mm
    F8, 1/1600sec, ISO 500 manual mode
    Handheld sitting in the sand

Your C & C are much welcomed and appreciated.

Beautiful portrait If I printed this I would add more on the left edge to avoid cutting off the head feathers.

Can't think of a single thing that could made this better. Good job on adding the canvas and capturing the grimace.

Tack, tack sharp Marina, and you have brought out the detail and colours exceptionally well. Congrats on a fine image.

You rose to the occasion both in the field and in the darkroom. I like every decision you made.
