    Default Serval Cat ! Serengeti

    Dear All

It was one lucky morning in Ngorongoro crater when we sighted two different Serval Cats
Only D3 could save me on that day as it was nearly dark and I was so have to have D3 in my hand

    D3 , 200-400?f4 at F4 , ISO 3200 at 380mm , 1/80 Hand Held and nearly full frame

All C & C are most welcome and much appreciated
    Harshad

PS , 0.8 Pixel Gaussian blur to remove some noise

Looks great considering the poor light and high ISO - this D3 is a pretty amazing device...

Beautiful and interesting looking cat, Harshad! Like the pose with one ear turned to listen. Good contrast to BG, but still depicts how it blends in nicely with habitat. Amazed you got this nice a shot in near darkness. Nice work.

Hi Harshad, nicely done to capture one of these elusive creatures. Detail looks pretty good, if it were mine I would try a slightly tighter crop...

nice pose in soft light, a cat I still need one decent photo of!

I agree with Grant, how about tighter crop if it's not cropped too much already?
Also, would like to know why you use Gaussian blur to handle noise instead of normal "noise reduction" actions? :2

A tighter crop certainly for me too, but would like to see a much larger detail version of the head, just to see what it looks like at ISO3200

Pretty good for the high ISO. I like the crop as is. One thing that makes this photo unique is that one of the cat's ears is turned away from us. This detail really stands out to me.

Wow, amazing given conditions. Agree that a tighter crop would be nice.

Considering the conditions this has come out well...Looks overcast, not almost dark:eek: D3 is impressive...Always a special sighting to see a Serval.

Neat looking cat. Like the grassy surroundings and the alert look of the cat. Also like the difference in ear positions allowing us to see the spots on the back that so many cats seem to have. Regarding the blurring of the BG, it seems you masked it away only on the cat. Might want to try a lesser degree of blurring on the grasses on the same plane as the cat for a little more natural blending.
