Don't get this kind of action often, but when it happens it's awesome to watch. This was shot on tidal flats along the North Carolina coast, hand-held from a kayak.

excellent action image , very well done

Very nice image. Such an unusual setting to see two stallions going at it like this. You certainly captured both of them in great poses.
Great perspective and timing here Bob, only would wish for a better HA for the stallion on right, but that maybe nit picking.

I would imagine it is seldom that anyone gets the chance to see this sort of action which along with the water splashing and the low pov makes a very nice image. Thanks for posting this.
This certainly has more drama to it than the previous posting Bob, however rather you than me in that kayak.
Having more space below helps the image, however the colour still looks flat and a little washed out. I can see where Marc is coming from with regard to the head angle and agree it might be better with more of a head turn, but full see why the angle is why it it is. Keeping the crop format as is, I might work from the LHC up and recrop so there is say a third less on the RHS, thus also reducing the amount of space above too.
Bob you might also like to browse this thread to, or indeed, any of the Tutorial postings here.

Lastly, please can you add the EXIF data too please.

Great action shot.. I would like to make that photo trip someday.

Steve, in order to add the "pop" that's so popular with many electronic viewers but bumping contrast or playing with curves I'd lose the 3/4 tones... i.e. the dark tones would block-up and lose detail. It's a matter of taste I suppse but the colors here are very natural and true to the colors of the horses on a calibrated monitor. EXIF data wasn't stripped from the photo, though I didn't take time to type it in. I'm not where I can do that at the moment.
Personally Bob, I would go back to the original file if it was me, however like you, I am looking at the image on a calibrated monitor, but not a problem about colour, just offering feedback. BTW, are you saving the file for posting as an RGB file or sRGB file, just a thought?
FYI The EXIF date is all within the image posted:
Canon 40D, Lens 50-500mm, 1/640sec f/8 ISO400 +0.33 comp W/B Auto, Image format JPEG

I don't mind feedback. If someone has a method for getting some pop without killing detail in the dark tones I'd love to hear it.
Fantastic action here Bob - would love it if this were mine!
I like the overall colour and contrast here, but would like to suggest a slight crop from the top to a more "panorama" presentation? What do you think?![]()
A beautiful shot of the two stallions, you can feel the action. My only comment would be that I would crop a little closer to really focus on the action.
Well done.
Wonderful interaction shot of these two beautiful Stallions, Bob! Nicely framed composition, and love the manes blowing and water splashing. Nice work!![]()
Bob - agree with the others, great action and low POV.

Love the action and low persepctive here. Just visited the Outer Banks last month to photograph the horses, but never got lucky enough to photograph this type of action. My first though after admiring the action is that the colors look flat. I would be tempted to try some shadow/highlights. Well done photographing from a kayak btw. You must have been very excited to see this kind of action.
Wonderful action !! Love the low angle !
