    Default Tern Blur

    Attached Images Attached Images

Sorry I haven't been participating as much as usual. I have been peeking in and looking at everyone's images. I took this at Nickerson beach during my recent workshop.
f/5.6 at 1/25 sec ISO 400. In the evening. I cleaned up one tern and cropped a little from the top and bottom. I used a slight panning motion as described in "A Guide to Pleasing Blurs" that I co-authored with Art Morris.
Sand and seaweed are on the bottom and the top is the ocean.

sweet effect! I wonder if you considered cropping to a more pan effect. leaving less ocean and less foreground. I like that appearance also.

Steve, Thank you for your kind words. I really am not a fan of pano crops and this is as close as I'm willing to go but you could certainly crop to more of a pano-it would work nicely. Thanks.

    Hey Denise,
I can see why steve suggested the pano as I too feel it would work but the OP works for me as presented as well. The pattern you caught works very well and the colors are very nice too.

Denise, I really like the soothing pastels brought out in this image.

I may have to try this soon. Funny thing is sometimes my terns in flight look like this without even trying

I also like the idea of a pano for this image.

Denise, this is a lovely blur with beautiful tones too! The images you posted on your blog the other day from this workshop were stunning too!

Denise, I like the amount of blur and the soft colors. I especially like the seaweed (greens and reds) in the fg.

I like the flowing pattern of the terns, and soft color tones on this, Denise. Nicely done!

Denise, love the way some of the terns are blending into the sand, together with the soft light and colours.

This is beautiful, Denise. I love the soft pastel like colors. Nice blur. Just wish for a slightly bigger size

Very nice image and application, Denise.

I would tend to crop the bottom to the top of the dark area on the LB, if it were mine. I don't think the lowest part of this adds to the nice image ... but as you know ... Y I Y V!!!

Love the degree of blurring and especially the seaweed streaks just below the birds. I would vote for a decent crop from below. If you like this image you will definitely want to check out my 6/10/11 blog post, Variety; there are lots of great pleasing blur tips.

What a great feel this has. I too love the little bit of seaweed on the bottom. I feel that there is no need for a pano crop. I think it works well as is.
