Default Polar bear with seal kill

This is an alternative to one I posted a while back. The only time where a Polar bear had a kill in view, in good light, out of 14 days. Sadly with the slight motion of the ship I have had to go for a more tighter crop due to a CW rotation of the image, albeit small 1.43. Hand holding the 500 and trying to keep in line with the motion of the ship was an interesting point, that needed to be factored into everything else whilst taking the shot. This does not do the PB justice in the sense of scale, these guys are truly awesome and makes Grizzlies a poor relation.

Can't remember if I had used a drop in filter here?

    Steve,

I like the vertical presentation here. Nice light and good details in the snow. Bear has great sharpness - not easy HH at 500mm in a boat.

Steve, the "red & white" contrast and the sharpness of the bear's paws are great!
Great overall light, and kudos for a HH shot from a wobbly boat

Like the stacking of snow and water layers of this one. The detail looks good and I also really like the vibrancy of the colors.

    Hi Steve

Congrats on the HH of 500mm lens and getting a sharp image from a boat.

If I have to be honest I am in two minds about the composition, would have preferred a landscape crop thus eliminating the top band of water and the tightness that this vertical post creates...

sorry to be the only one that feels this way ..

PP work as always top notch

Hi Peter, why feel sorry, it's perfectly fine and if I was you I would hopefully would have made the same comment. I must admit, I occasionally swopped to mounting on a tripod, but this can be more of a restriction than a helping hand, it just depended on the situation.

Thanks also for the feedback & comments everyone.

Colors in this are amazing...DOF and the layers of theBG and foreground work really nicely. Love your work Steve!

Hi Steve, nice light and excellent IQ. Super sharp HH, I struggle even when not on a boat. As mentioned colours are superb.

Steve - Head on pose and vibrant colors really work well but I think Peter's suggestion would have also been a good comp.
